Description
Bakuchiol Oil
Bakuchiol is a deeply antioxidant oil which is considered to be immensely beneficial.
Bakuchiol Oil is being increasingly used within the skincare industry, often added to treatments and products aimed at helping people with mature or problematic skin.
There are many claims that Bakuchiol Oil can provide a successful treatment for acne, and there is hard science proving Bakuchiol Oil is better than retinol for our skin.
Bakuchiol Oil, is also known as :: Babchi Oil, Bakuchi Oil or Bawchi Oil, among others…
Bakuchiol Oil is considered non-comedogenic, making it ideal for facial application as well as for bodily application.
Bakuchiol Health Benefits
A review1 of 110 clinical studies determined that the health benefits of Bakuchiol include:
Antitumour + anti-inflammatory + antioxidant + antimicrobial + antiviral
Another comprehensive review states:
Bakuchiol, is a principal bioactive component present in seeds of Psoralea corylifolia. It is one of the important monoterpene phenols and has been reported to possess extensive pharmacological properties like antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anticancer, and hepatoprotective [protects the liver]. Bakuchiol also plays a significant role in mental disorders.2
Bakuchiol Oil is also antibacterial
Bakuchiol, extracted predominantly and traditionally from the Psoralea corylifolia L. plant… has shown potent antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, anti-osteoporotic, and antitumorigenic activities and exhibited other beneficial uses. It has also gained huge popularity in the beauty industry as a tolerable analogue of retinol in skin therapeutics. Studies have also shown bakuchiol’s protective effect on the liver, heart, bones, and other organs.3
Babchi Oil & Acne
The anti-inflammatory, antioxidant antibacterial and antimicrobial actions of Bakuchiol, may be beneficial for acne-prone skin.
★★★★★ 5 Star Etsy Review :: Exactly as described and fast delivery. I’m really happy with this oil and can already see that my acne is calming down after one week’s use. Thank you.
Michelle, Billericay, Essex
Bakuchiol Oil is anti-inflammatory and antibacterial, both of which are important for reducing the severity of acne outbreaks. Bakuchiol Oil’s retinoid-like action (see below) also helps to unclog pores. (When used with Jojoba, as advised later, this action will be enhanced.)
Bakuchiol Oil also reduces the activity of 5 alpha reductase within the sebaceous glands, reducing clogging and potentially leading to a reduction in oil production.
*There are several essential oils which help reduce oil secretion, with Palmarosa Essential Oil being one of the most affordable and aromatically pleasing. Wild As The Wind also offer an Organic Palmarosa Essential Oil.
Bakuchiol Oil Versus Retinol
Bakuchiol Oil is increasingly being used in skin renewing formulas because it has been proven to be as effective as retinol at reversing signs of ageing. Not only is Bakuchiol Oil a completely natural, less irritating, easier to use alternative to retinol, it is also a much safer option as well…
Retinol has been proven to be harmful in many ways, with cosmetic doctors like Dr. Mervyn Patterson increasingly speaking out about its use… He says retinol products are “being marketed in an irresponsible way” and that the “industry is taking us into a mass experimentation of the population”, which, of course, the buying public knows nothing about.
The long term effects of Retinol use are likely to be disastrous, because it works via a process of forcing cells to divide, thereby exhibiting a youthful appearance…
But, normal cells can only divide about 50 times, according to the Hayflick Limit, which is one of the primary reasons why we age.
Dr. Mervyn Patterson explains…
We don’t live forever. So if you plaster way too much retinol on in your 20s, 30s, and 40s, you could be depleting all of those healthy cell divisions that you really should be storing for cell divisions further down your lifetime.
How Does Bakuchiol Stack Up?
Bakuchiol Oil the gentle, vegan ingredient, is thus proving pretty revelatory as a natural alternative to retinol.
In addition, Bakuchiol Oil is a potent antioxidant, which can visibly reduce skin discolouration and exert a profound soothing effect on facial and bodily skin.
Research has shown that Bakuchiol Oil has a good number of anti-ageing attributes which do the following:
- Reduce the appearance of fine lines & wrinkles
- Restore firmness
- Refine & even skin tone & texture
- Calm skin irritation & sensitivity
Ultimately. Bakuchiol Oil is an ideal choice for those with Retinol damaged skin, especially when blended with Cacay Oil. (Please see recommended blend, below.)
Bakuchiol Oil Recommended Usage
Bakuchiol Oil should not be used on its own. It should be blended with other quality carrier oils at a maximum 10% concentration.
Research has shown that even small amounts of Babchi Oil, (between 0.5-2%) have achieved visible benefits.
Bakuchiol Oil can be added to any of the Wild As The Wind products, including FACIAL OIL No. 2 and FACIAL OIL No. 8 at c. 5% dilution.
- c. 20 drops of oil = 1ml
If you wish to use Facial Oil No. 8 in the winter months, the addition of Bakuchiol Oil will improve the protective performance of this oil.
You can use the pipette from your Facial Oil No. 8 or Facial Oil No. 2 bottle to collect the desired amount of drops of Bakuchiol Oil from your Bakuchiol Oil bottle. This will not harm your oils, but it will transfer a little amount of oil from one bottle to another.
Alternatively, you can follow the recipe below…
Recommended Bakuchiol Oil Blends
Bakuchiol Oil should be used in combination with all other carrier oils.
If you wish to target specific issues, please consider the following options:
For Problem & Ageing Skin
This simple blend of three carrier oils is a positive powerhouse of renewal and rejuvenation.
- Bakuchiol Oil: 1% – 10% (adjust other ingredients accordingly)
- Cacay Oil 70%
- Jojoba Oil 20%
Cacay Oil is an incredibly rich source of vitamin A, and is considered a bio-retinol.
Jojoba Oil shares a very similar chemical profile as the sebum of our skin, helping to keep our pores healthy and free of debris.
Jojoba Oil is the ideal choice for facial cleansing and makeup removal.
Protective, Rejuvenating Blend
*May help with scarring and discolouration.
- Bakuchiol Oil: 1% – 10% (adjust other ingredients accordingly)
- Rosehip Seed Oil 10%
- Nigella Sativa Oil 30%
- Jojoba Oil 20%
- Raspberry Seed Oil 30%
This blend will not only potentially help heal scars, discolouration and signs of ageing, it will possibly also provide a degree of sun protection.
*Please read Carrier Oils For Sun Protection for more information.
**Essential oils can be added to suit your needs.
Bakuchiol Oil Application
Your Bakuchiol Oil blend should be applied topically and is suitable for application on face and body. When applying facially I advise caution around the eyes, (when I use Bakuchiol Oil blends they tend to give me a feeling of ‘tired eyes’).
Your Bakuchiol Oil blend can be used morning and at night for maximum effectiveness.
Bakuchiol Oil isn’t known to negatively interact with other skincare ingredients, so it can be safely used with other products in your skincare regimen.
Bakuchiol Oil Storage
Store all carrier oils, including Bakuchiol Oil, in a cool, dark, dry place away from sunlight. Keep the lid firmly closed to avoid oxidation.
Cautions & Contraindications
Bakuchiol Oil is considered non-toxic and non-hazardous.
If you have sensitive skin, or if you do a lot of sun bathing, there’s a very remote chance you may have a slight reaction to this Wild As The Wind oil.
There is some concern that Bakuchiol Oil may be phototoxic, owing to compounds called psoralens, which are present in Bakuchiol Oil.
However, a definitive voice within clinical skincare, Journal of Drugs in Dermatology, categorically states:
[Bakuchiol Oil] has a much better tolerability profile than retinoids and does not require dose escalation. It is also photostable providing for greater formulation ease. Finally, bakuchiol is not phototoxic.5
If correct, direct sunlight exposure does not need to be avoided after application.
The Journal of Drugs in Dermatology also states:
A bakuchiol based anti-aging cleanser and moisturizer was found to be suitable for use in sensitive skin subjects with eczema/ atopic dermatitis, rosacea, or cosmetic intolerance syndrome.5
Perform A Patch Test
It is always advisable to perform a patch test on the soft skin on the inside of your forearm before using carrier oils on your face.
Place a drop of Wild As The Wind pre-diluted Bakuchiol Oil on your inner forearm, making sure to massage it well into your skin.
A severe reaction will occur within ten minutes, but it may take 24 hours for milder intolerances to emerge.
Look for signs of Urticaria, (aka Hives), discolouration, redness, dryness, or feelings of irritation / itchiness.
If you experience none of these, you will be safe to use Wild As The Wind Bakuchiol Oil elsewhere on your body, including your face.
Nevertheless, always avoid sensitive areas and inside your ears unless otherwise instructed by your health professional. This is especially important if you use Wild As The Wind Bakuchiol Oil with Essential Oils.
For more information, please consult Performing A Patch Test.

I use Facial Oil No. 2 & Facial Oil No. 8, along with Bakuchiol Oil, all the time. These products are all I need. My facial skin is looking really good considering I am well over 80 years old! People regularly comment that I’m looking great.

I just want to say that I discovered Wild As the Wind about 3 years ago and cannot recommend their products enough. I use a few drops of bakuchiol oil with jojoba as a night time moisturiser. It nourishes my skin beautifully and my face still feels supple the next morning, far more than a night cream has managed. People often comment on how good my skin looks, so at 59 years old, I’m more than happy with that! I’ve used the facial oils nos. 2 and 8 as well, and they are divine! These products are natural, excellent quality and above all, ethical. Plus, I love the personal touch from Rachel who always includes a hand-written thank you letter with my orders.

I’ve been using Wild As The Wind Bakuchiol Oil for quite a while now, sometimes on its own, but often in conjunction Facial Oil No. 8. It’s amazing. It absorbs beautifully into my skin, but it leaves a non-greasy protective film on the surface. My skin feels so nourished, especially a patch of really dry skin I have on my left cheek. It really seems to plump and smooth my skin, taking the years off. it feels really lovely too. Truly amazing! And, if I decide I need all the benefits from all the essential oils in the No. 8 face oil, then this sinks in beautifully on top. Completely hooked!
Nicole (verified owner) –
This bakuchiol oil makes my skin feel so soft! I apply it first then apply the No.2 oil every morning and evening. The combination of the two really work well together!
Thank you so much Rachel! Xx
Rachel Wild –
Thanks Nicole. I’m really glad your Bakuchiol is working so well for you. I love using this oil with the facial oils too. Especially on colder days. x x x

Love this oil. Bought some from Rachel [Wild As The Wind] a few months ago. I use it every morning and evening before bed then put facial oil no. 8 on top. It really absorbs my mature skin and lines. Love it, thanks Rachel. ????
Rachel Wild –
Hi Maureen, thanks for your thoughtful feedback. I’m glad you like this special oil so much. When you say it absorbs your mature skin and wrinkles I’m guessing you mean it absorbs well and reduces the appearance of your mature skin and lines…?
