Raspberry Seed Oil Essential Fatty Acid Content
The essential fatty acids in an oil are what determine its moisturising potential.
Wild As The Wind Raspberry Seed Oil contains the following levels of essential fatty acids / omega fats.
- Palmitic Acid, (Omega-7): 7.8%
- Stearic Acid, (Saturated fat as found in Tallow): 1.1%
- Oleic Acid, (omega-9): 13.4%
- Linoleic Acid, (omega-6): 43.2%
- Alpha Linolenic Acid, (omega-3): 32.7%
Linoleic Acid, the most abundant omega fat in Raspberry Seed Oil, is also referred to as Vitamin F. It is one of the most impressive skincare ingredients, where skin health is concerned.
Linoleic Acid is excellent for improving skin barrier function, providing optimal moisturisation, and reducing inflammation and irritation. It is also deeply emollient and antioxidant. All of these factors contribute towards an impressive anti-ageing profile.
The restorative properties of Alpha-linolenic acid are many. It is known to inhibit melanin production and reduce hyperpigmentation and blemishes.
Like Linoleic Acid, it is also anti-inflammatory.
Using Raspberry Seed Oil For Sun Protection
There is a long tradition of people using Raspberry Seed Oil for sun and environmental protection. And, if the feedback for this oil is anything to go by, it’s a tradition that’s being honoured to this day.
We are growing increasingly aware that conventional sun creams are adversely affecting our health.
We need sunlight to regulate and support our health at a systemic level, so blocking these life giving benefits is deeply detrimental. And, with claims that conventional sun creams are the leading cause of skin cancer, many are looking for natural alternatives.
Raspberry Seed Oil is best used in conjunction with Wild As The Wind Sun Tanning Essential Oil Blend.

Raspberry Seed Oil Sun Protection Science
According to scientific research, Raspberry Seed Oil is…
… gaining increasing attention by cosmetics industry. It is used as an ingredient in body and face moisturizers because of its high concentrations of Vitamins A and E. These vitamins are essential for the maintenance and repair of skin cells. The oil works by creating a lipid barrier that stops skin from losing natural moisture. Retaining moisture helps to keep skin cells looking young and full. Raspberry oil can be used as a base for makeup applications. It adds hydration, sun protection and nourishing vitamins. The primary factors that contribute to premature aging of the skin include UV from the sun, illness, smoking and drinking. Raspberry seed oil is packed with carotenoids—a plant derived source of Vitamins A and E. These compounds are widely used in many anti-aging skin care products to help promote youthful skin. Vitamin A is a popular antioxidant and ingredient in anti-aging skincare products because it adds moisture, reduces the appearance of wrinkles and smooths skin texture. Vitamin E is another highly praised antioxidant in the anti-aging industry. It helps to protect cells from oxidative damage and assists with maintaining collagen structure. Research has demonstrated that people with higher levels of antioxidants have fewer and less pronounced wrinkles than those with low levels. This oil is of particular interest to medical experts because it naturally contains sun protective compounds in addition to its beneficial antioxidants
What You Need To Know About Oils For Sun Protection
Sunburn is essentially a process of oxidation within our skin. Oxygen and sunlight are oxidative. So when we are exposed to fresh air and strong sunlight, this promotes oxidative processes within our skin.
Natural Ways Of Avoiding Sunburn
However, this is especially true dependent on other factors… Environmental pollutants and high amounts of certain fats within our diet are highly oxidative. So, personal exposure to oxidative stress will determine your personal tollerance to the oxidative processes of the air and sun.
If you burn easily in the sun, this may indicate that your diet is too rich in omega-6 fatty acids, aka linoleic acid or LA.
The modern Western diet is rich in vegetable and seed oils, which contain a lot of linoleic acid. Conventionally reared chickens and pigs, which are grain and seed fed, are also high in linoleic acid.
To compound the issues of a diet high in linoleic acid, we are also often nutritionally deficient in antioxidants, which we make from fresh fruits and vegetables, particularly cruciferous veggies, like cabbage cauliflower and kale.
More information here: Natural Ways Of Avoiding Sunburn
Please note :: The antioxidant properties of sun protective oils will help to protect us from sunburn, but the level of protection will vary from person to person. This means that our personal dietary and environmental exposure will determine the length of time we, as individuals, can spend in the sun.
For this reason you must pay attention to how your skin feels at all times, and if you feel that you might be burning, you will need to cover up, or go inside.
No antioxidant sun protective oil or conventional suncream can protect us indefinitely in the sun. All they can hope to do is extend the time we can safely stay in the sun.
To enhance the antioxidant potential of your oil it is strongly advised that you use Raspberry Seed Oil in conjunction with Sun Tanning Essential Oil Blend. This is made using deeply antioxidant essential oils.
Additional Oils For Sun Protection
Many people have now replaced conventional after sun lotions with the deeply nutritive Organic Rosehip Seed Oil.
Creams are predominantly made from water, whereas using an oil means that nutrient concentrations are far greater.
Organic Rosehip Seed Oil is an ideal choice as an after sun balm, especially when blended with the essential oils known to be good for healing burns, like Organic Lavender Essential Oil, and for scar reduction and wound healing, like Organic Geranium Essential Oil.
Both of these essential oils are in the Wild As The Wind Sun Tanning Essential Oil Blend.
The full list of ingredients are:
- Organic Lavender Essential Oil
- Organic Sweet Orange Essential Oil
- Organic Geranium Rose Essential Oil
- Organic Palmarosa Essential Oil
Please note: Wild As The Wind stock several versions of each of these essential oils. To view them all, please use the search box at the top of the page, using “Lavender” or “Geranium” as your search terms. Then click return.
A list of all of the relevant oils will appear, including the individual oils and blended essential oil options.

Raspberry Seed Oil For Collagen Production
Collagen is the connective tissue which keeps our skin looking young and healthy. The reduction of collagen due to poor diet and ageing is what gives rise to wrinkles.
There are several antioxidants in Raspberry Seed Oil which promote Collagen:
- Tocopherols (vitamin E)
- Carotenoids (vitamin A)
- Ellagic acid helps reduce the degeneration of collagen.
These antioxidants stimulate collagen production whilst also protecting collagen integrity. These multi-tasking potently healing constituents in Raspberry Seed Oil also stimulate cell repair and reduce the appearance of damaged skin.

I have had kerotosis on the skin of my arms and legs since my early 30’s. I was advised that it was sun induced as I did a lot of sunbathing with olive and coconut oil in my teens ( and lived in the tropics early years). These kerotosis have been difficult to manage and I tried virtually everything on prescription and over the counter to improve the condition. As I have aged ( now in my 60’s) the condition became worse on my lower legs despite being careful in the sun.
Bought raspberry oil and the sun tanning oil and found these improved massively. Now just use raspberry oil daily and most of the very stubborn areas of keratosis have gone. My legs truly better than they have been in decades. It really works brilliantly for me. Thank you.

I’ve tried the raspberry seed oil for the first time in very sunny days over the last week, it really worked well for me. No sunburn and my skin looked radiant healthy and tanned. Highly recommend this oil as your future sun protection. I left it with a family member after a visit because she was impressed with the result I had of walking in the sun all afternoon. Also no greasy feeling or marks. So I’m buying this again! Thanks Rachel! Will add the sun tan essential oil blend to my list now! The quality of all your products I’ve tried are absolutely amazing. ?

I have just brought more of the Raspberry seed oil which I use on my body and combine with the facial no 2 on my face. I work in the sun all day every day over the summers. I put it on after a shower especially around the face and on my chest (a winning battle with the wrinkly cleavage thing!) and dry hands. It sinks in really fast and doesn’t leave an oily residue and I feel glowing all day. My skin doesn’t dry up and I do feel it adds a lot of goodness to my skin. It smells amazing! It’s really awesome to have a great affordable product on the market (literally on our lovely market) and because of that you can put in your daily life adding goodness to your day without a second thought! Rachel really knows her stuff about oils. If you see her I would highly recommend stopping for a chat about your life she will give you some lovely stuff for it!

I am a complete fan of Wild as the Wind’s essential oils. I have been using them for a year now and find them so natural and effective!
One product I can’t recommend enough is the new Sun Tanning oil blend combined with Raspberry Seed Oil.
Over a month ago I purchased the Sun Tanning oil blend and diluted it with Raspberry Seed oil from Wild as the Wind. I put away my mineral sunscreen and have used this natural sunscreen ever since. I live on the South coast, and it has protected me from this year’s very strong sun. Before using the Sun Tanning blend and Raspberry Seed Oil I was getting a few concerning papilla sunspots which have miraculously disappeared since switching to Rachel’s essential oil sunscreen . Also, my skin’s texture has improved, and I am wearing fewer concealing products. The scent is lovely too. My advice would be to always carry a small bottle of the diluted Sun Tanning oil blend in your bag to top up if you are in the direct sun for more than a few hours and this will remoisturise your skin too. ( FYI I am 58) .
A big thank you to Rachel for her amazing products. I am so glad I found her.

Great stuff- feels really good on the skin, smells wonderful and not greasy at all.
I use it when the sun is strong and it really soothes my ginger skin.
Thank you xx
Rachel Wild –
Thanks Angus x x I’m so glad it’s helping. I also have pale skin naturally, and it works a treat for me too. x x x (Yours has had the Sun Tanning Essential Oil Blend added to it… that’s why it smells so good 🙂 x x

I love this oil. It’s a none oily oil, feels beautiful on the skin and doesn’t leave a nasty residue. I know it has many benefits but I use it mainly after a bath, it won’t clog your pores or leave oil on your clothing, it absorbs well and leaves my skin feeling super soft (and deals with the small patches of Eczema I still get). It’s also a great sunscreen. Price wise I think this is incredible value for money as it’s a quality oil, there are so many out there that aren’t. I have no hesitation in recommending this product, I have been using it for some time now and found the excellent quality to be consistent. Thanks Rachel!
Rachel Wild –
Hi Linda, thanks so much for your feedback. Especially as I know you were reticent to try the non-organic Raspberry Seed Oil when the price sky-rocketed for the organic version, and it was very difficult to get hold of a couple of years ago. But, as you now know, from having used several bottles of the ethically sourced Raspberry Seed Oil, it really is an excellent oil. I absolutely love it too. It’s so nutrient dence, and as you say, non-oily… I recommend it for so many applications. If you ever want to switch things up a little, the Borage Oil behaves very simlarly, non-oily, but super rich and nouriushing… love that one too! x x x x

This is the best carrier oil I have ever used! With no oily residue! I suffer from psoriasis and have dry skin needing moisture and sun. I struggle with sun cream because my skin needs sun but can’t be burnt or it will flare up. I used this oil (mixed with lavender, copiaba and geranium essential oils) whilst on holiday in Croatian sun for 10 days… It’s a fantastic sunscreen and moisturizer! I never burnt once, and my psoriasis almost fully healed from being able to enjoy the sun without being flooded with coating cream. Thank you so much for making such a fantastic product that is doing so much good and smells so great!
Rachel Wild –
Oh Hazel, I’m so pleased! And, I’m so grateful you have shared your experience. I’m approached by so many people in your position… They’ve tried everything, and nothing really helps. It’s so good you know about getting into the sun… this is the key thing to do… we need that Vitamin D!!! The reason it’s so important is because Vitamin D is vitally important for our immune system, and Psoriasis is an autoimmune condition. This means that your immune system is really working overtime, and needs all the help it can get!Vitamin D helps to regulate the immune response, and gives you a good old immune boost… so, a good 10 days is strong sun, like you had in Croatia, takes a good amount of the burden off your immune system. By the way… Vitamin D is actually a hormone… I explain all about it and some other vitally important vitamins for immune function and hormonal health in this article: https://www.wilddigital.co.uk/eating-for-hormone-balance/
And, here’s an article about digestive health, because 80% of our immune system is in our gut, and so we really need to look after our digestion if we want to stay well: https://www.wilddigital.co.uk/gut-health/
And finally, I’m sure you know the connection between Psoriasis and stress… this article explains all of the major stressors and gives us the info we need to reverse engineer the stressors which are affecting us personally, so we can start eliminating them. (Stress totally undermines our immune system!) https://www.wilddigital.co.uk/stress-is-the-cause-of-all-illness-dysfunction/
