Description

Organic Sea Buckthorn Oil

Organic Sea Buckthorn Oil is an incredibly nutrient dense, moisturising carrier oil, which is cold expressed, via centrifuge, from the fruit juice obtained from the berries of the Sea Buckthorn shrub.

Owing to its exceptional nutrient and essential fatty acid profile, Organic Sea Buckthorn Oil plays a vitally important role within Wild As The Wind FACIAL OIL No. 2.

Organic Sea Buckthorn Oil is extracted from the fruit pulp of the Hippophae rhamnoides shrub.

Interestingly, mature Sea Buckthorn shrubs grow to the size of small trees, (up to 8 metres), and possesses very long needle-like thorns, which make the thorns of blackthorn trees, (Prunus Spinosa), seem positely harmless. Blackthorn trees grow to a height of 6m – 7m, but are known as trees!

Organic Sea Buckthorn Oil Uses

Organic Sea Buckthorn Oil is variously used to help with the following

  • Signs of ageing
  • Burns, including sunburn and deeper types of burns (kitchen, chemical / acid burns)
  • Cuts, & deeper wounds
  • Rashes
  • Damaged skin
  • Skin integrity

Organic Sea Buckthorn Oil is a gorgeous amber-coloured oil. Because of this, Organic Sea Buckthorn Oil will temporarily tint the skin when used on its own. For this reason, Sea Buckthorn Oil should be diluted with at least one other carrier oil before being applied topically. See suggestions below.

Organic Sea Buckthorn Oil As A Moisturiser

Organic Sea Buckthorn Oil has the ability to deeply penetrate the lipid layers of the skin, where it delivers a nutrient-rich bundle of benefits. It can rectify dermal imbalances and help cleanse, exfoliate and nourish your skin from the inside out.

Essential fatty acids, or EFA’s, which are more commonly known as Omega oils, are what moisturise our skin… and Organic Sea Buckthorn Oil contains EFA’s in abundance.

Omega-3 & Omega-6 :: Omega-3 & 6 have been scientifically proven to contain age reversing properties which reduce the appearance of wrinkles, acne, scarring and other forms of skin damage. They are also effective at easing eczema, psoriasis, and dandruff.

Omega-7 :: helps heal wounds, even those caused by burns. It is profoundly anti-inflammatory.

Organic Sea Buckthorn Oil Nutrient Profile

Organic Sea Buckthorn Oil is also rich in antioxidants and other nutrients, which all contribute to the potent healing benefits of this important oil.

Organic Sea Buckthorn Oil nutrients and antioxidants include:

  • Beta-Carotene
  • Carotenoids
  • Glucosides
  • Phenols
  • Plant Sterols
  • Terpenes
  • Tocotrienols
  • Tocopherols
  • Pro-vitamin A (from carotenoids)
  • Vitamin C
  • Vitamin E

Organic Sea Buckthorn Oil also contains important nutrient trace elements such as selenium, manganese, copper, and iron.

Sea buckthorn can nearly be classified as the almighty wonder oil given its intensely rich nutritional profile, which includes vitamins A, B1, B2, C, D, E, K and P; carotenoids; flavonoids; amino acids; phenols; folic acid; organic acids; and 20 mineral elements, not to mention its essential fatty acid profile. It may be the only plant in the world to contain all four omegas: omega-3, omega-6, omega-7 and omega-9. That’s a powerfully healing cocktail.

Organic Sea Buckthorn Oil For Anti-Ageing

Organic Sea Buckthorn Oil is anti-ageing in many ways.

***Pro-vitamin A is the active constituent within retinol. Sadly, retinol, a synthetic product, has now been scientifically proven to be harmful. This is why it is important to use natural sources of vitamin A rather than the synthetically engineered form. Synthetic retinols are typically found in mass-produced serums and creams, which are made in a lab using unnatural ingredients and processes.

Retinol has been produced from acidification or hydrolysis of retinal that is synthesized chemically by the reduction of a pentadiene derivative. However, these chemical processes have some disadvantages, such as complex purification steps and the formation of undesirable by-products.

Read why retinol is harmful and actually contributes to ageing rather than preventing it. The article, Bakuchiol Oil & Rosehip Oil Versus Retinol, also details a couple of the carrier oils to consider diluting your Sea Buckthorn Oil with.

Wild As The Wind offer two fantastic Rosehip oils :: Wildcrafted Organic Rosehip Oil and Organic Rosehip Oil.

Wildcrafted Organic Rosehip Oil is a superior quality carrier oil, which is much more nutrient dense than other Rosehip Oils.

The Wild As The Wind Organic Rosehip Oil is also a superior oil to many, but it is not as nutrient rich or energetically potent as the Wild As The Wind Wildcrafted Organic Rosehip Oil.

The other oil mentioned, Bakuchiol Antioxidant Oil, is also a nutrient powerhouse, which has been scientifically shown to be as effective as Retinol without any of the negative side effects.

*** Both Rosehip and Bakuchiol Oils should be used as diluted ingredients within your face oil blends. Bakuchiol Oil is ideally used at a low dilution :: anywhere between 0.5% and 5%, and Rosehip Oil should be used at c. 10% dilution.

Wild As the Wind advise up to a 30% dilution of Organic Jojoba Oil (to maintain optimum sebum levels, so your skin does not block and form blackheads and acne etc.)

In addition, you can use up to a 50% to 60% dilution of Organic Sweet Almond Oil, which is colourless, nutrient dense and very easily absorbed.

Organic Sea Buckthorn Oil For Problem Skin

Organic Sea Buckthorn Oil has high concentrations of palmitoleic acid (19-29%) and palmitic acid, which is the most common saturated fatty acid found in animals, plants and microorganisms. It is an excellent emollient.

Palmitoleic acid is known as Omega-7, and is also a constituent naturally found in human skin. However, like so many key nutrients, its natural occurrence within our skin diminishes with age. This is why it is important to increasingly replace it as time goes by.

Recent studies have reported that palmitoleic acid is useful in treating disorders related to skin hyperpigmentation, fibrosis and as an adjuvant in formulations for the treatment of secondary infections caused by gram-positive bacteria.

*The palmitoleic acid content of Sea Buckthorn Oil (19-29%) exceeds that of Macadamia Oil (c. 17%) which is the oil known to have the second-highest concentration of this important ingredient.

Organic Sea Buckthorn Oil Antioxidants

The high antioxidant content of Organic Sea Buckthorn Oil can ultimately prevent the appearance of dull, lacklustre skin, (and hair), which is prone to dryness and signs of rapid ageing.

It reduces the appearance of redness and inflammation, soothing some of the more painful symptoms of our more troubling skin conditions.

Diluting Organic Sea Buckthorn Oil For Facial & Bodily Application

Oils that are naturally amber coloured tend to be incredibly nutrient dense.

There are other amber coloured oils, such as Organic Rosehip Seed Oil. Whilst Organic Rosehip Seed Oil is not quite as deeply amber coloured as Organic Sea Buckthorn Oil, they share some remarkable benefits.

This is why both Organic Rosehip Seed Oil and Organic Sea Buckthorn Oil can be found in Wild As The Wind Facial Oil No. 2.

Both oils benefit from being diluted to ensure the minimisation of skin tinting. Some people, of course, see the abilty of these oils to tint the skin as a benefit, especially those who suffer with an overly rosey complection.

There is no hard and fast rule about the required concentration of Organic Sea Buckthorn Oil to other carrier oils. However, as with Organic Rosehip Seed Oil, a 10% dilution will provide the desired results without discolouration.

Nevertheless, the concentration of Organic Sea Buckthorn Oil to other carrier oils can be 20% to 30% depending on the desired effect. The same is true of Organic Rosehip Seed Oil. For those dealing with hyper-pigemntation and rosacea etc, higher concentrations will be desirable. Also consider adding Organic Tamanu Oil to enhance these benefits, please see below…

Carrier Oils For Dilution

Organic Safflower Oil is excellent for the summer as well as for problem skin. It is delightfully light, and absorbs beautifully. It is an ideal accompaniment to Organic Sea Buckthorn Oil.

Organic Raspberry Seed Oil is another oil which is well suited to summer use. It also absorbs beautifully, and it is also protective against the elements. It is reputed to have an unofficial SPF of anywhere between 28 and 50, depending on the growing environment of the raspberry plants, used to make the oil.

Organic Tamanu Oil is another oil with a lot of colour. But, possessing a more blueish tone, Organic Tamanu Oil can help to counter the amber tones of Organic Sea Buckthorn Oil, and further relieve the look of overly reddened skin.

However, Organic Tamanu Oil is one of the more aromatic oils, with a sweet nutty aroma, which is not to everyone’s taste.

Wild As The Wind has produced a comprehensive resourse to help you easily decide which carrier oils to blend with Organic Sea Buckthorn Oil, for your individual needs. Please visit the Wild As The Wind Ultimate Guide To UK Carrier Oils for more information.
