Description

Organic Buriti Oil

Organic Buriti Oil is cold pressed from the cone shaped fruit of the Moriche Palm Tree, which is found in the Amazon, particularly the Brazilian section. The Moriche Palm Tree is revered in Brazil and is considered the ‘Tree Of Life’, owing to the many traditional skincare applications it is used for.

Organic Buriti Oil is harvested from the fallen fruits between September and December.

Despite its exotic origins, Organic Buriti Oil is no longer a well kept secret. It has risen to the attention of the beauty industry, and is now an important ingredient in high-end beauty products designed to moisturise, and support skin elasticity, suppleness and plumpness.

INCI: Mauritia Flexuosa (Buriti) Fruit Oil

The Mauritia Flexuosa or Moriche Palm is also known as the Ité Palm.

Organic Buriti Oil In Skincare Videos

Organic Buriti Oil is pronounced differently than you might expect. The proper pronunciation is important to know, especially if you’re partial to watching videos for mature and problem skin on YouTube. Buriti is surprisingly pronounced Bur-ree-chee.

Organic Buriti Oil regularly gets a mention in these videos as one of the best oils in the world to deliver optimal benefits, but because it’s pronounced ‘burr-ree-chee’, you may have found it difficult to join the dots if you didn’t know!

Organic Buriti Oil For Skincare

Organic Buriti Oil is fabulously nutritive, and it gives Bakuchiol Oil, in skincare terms, a real run for it’s money! Plus, Organic Buriti Oil is less expensive than Bakuchiol Oil which makes it a very attractive proposition.

Organic Buriti Oil is very rich in Oleic Acid, usually in excess of 70%. But, Organic Buriti Oil is actually really rich in all three main Omega Oils: Omega 3, 6 and 9, making it deeply moisturising, especially for mature skin.

As well as being very rich in fatty acids, Organic Buriti Oil also contains important skincare vitamins like Vitamin E, (tocopherols), Vitamin C, and tremendously high amounts of Vitamin A, (beta carotene / carotenoids).

Organic Buriti Oil is the highest known source of Beta Carotene, (Vitamin A). It has three times more Beta Carotene than Carrot Oil!

Because Beta Carotene is one of the most powerful antioxidants within the plant kingdom, it’s capacity for supporting healthy skin is very difficult to match.

When Vitamin A is applied to the skin it converts into a safe form of Retinol. This means, of course, it is an exceptionally sought after ingredient in high-end facial products.

Organic Buriti Oil is very replenishing for mature, dry, damaged skin.

Organic Buriti Oil Traditional Skincare Uses

Organic Buriti Oil has been traditionally used to soothe irritable skin conditions, as well as for balancing sebum production.

It has also been used as a balm for burns and wounds. In fact, Organic Buriti Oil was considered so soothing that the people of Brazil have used Organic Buriti Oil on bee stings and insect bites.

Organic Buriti Oil has also traditionally been used on scars and eruptive skin problems.

There is currently much research into the potential uses of Organic Burit Oil for skincare purposes which may yet reveal that the traditional uses of this oil have merit.

Much of the research is focused on the antimicrobial activity of Organic Buriti Oil as well as its anti-inflammatory properties.

Organic Buriti Oil For Cracked Skin

Organic Buriti’s moisturising capabilities can been used to nourish and soothe cracked, dry skin elsewhere on the body.

Organic Buriti Oil can be added to Organic Nigella Sativa Oil and Organic Myrrh Essential Oil for appeasing cracked heels and knuckles.

The high density of moisturising constituents in Organic Buriti Oil means that it is powerfully hydrating. This makes it an ideal choice for haircare as well as skincare.

Organic Buriti Oil & The Sun

Organic Buriti Oil is photoprotective, which means that it helps to protect us in the sun. When diluted with other photoprotective oils, like Organic Raspberry Seed Oil, Organic Buriti Oil can provide a natural alternative to conventional suncreams.

Please note, concerns about the carcinogenic nature of conventional suncreams, including ‘green’ alternatives, are increasing year on year. Please refer to Carrier Oils For Sun Protection for more information.

Organic Buriti Oil also makes a good companion oil to Organic Rosehip Oil for after sun purposes.

For more information about Organic Buriti Oil, and other carrier oils for sun protection, please visit: Carrier Oils For UV Protection.

Using sun protective essential oils with UV protective carrier oils can also elevate our protection levels.

Sun burn is an oxidative process. This means that all sun protective carrier oils benefit from the addition of antioxidant essential oils, for use in the sun.

Wild As The Wind Sun Tanning Essential Oil Blend has been specifically formulated for this purpose.

To learn more about the SPF values of essential oils, and which oils to avoid using whilst enjoying the sun, please visit: Essential Oils For Sun Protection.

Organic Buriti Oil For Haircare

Because Organic Buriti Oil is rich in Omegas 3, 6 and 9, it will help to balance the sebum production of our scalps, and also strengthen weak, damaged hair. Studies have shown that Organic Buriti Oil can reduce split ends by as much as 60%, plus, because of it’s deeply moisturising effects it helps to smooth hair in the same way a conditioner does… but more healthily!

Organic Buriti Oil provides a healthy shine to even the most tangled, gnarly hair, and regular use will definitely help with reducing split ends.

Organic Buriti Oil As A Hot Oil Hair Treatment

Organic Buriti Oil makes a great hot oil treatment oil for all hair types, but is perhaps most deeply beneficial for dry damaged hair. Simply place your Organic Buriti Oil in a metal or porcelain cup and let it stand in a pan of boiling water, (effectively creating your own homemade bain-marie).

Use approximately ½ to 1 tbsp of Organic Buriti Oil for shorter hair and 1½ to 2 tbsp of Organic Buriti Oil for long hair.

Once hot to the touch, dip your fingertips in the oil and run them through your hair until all of the Organic Buriti Oil has been applied, and you have achieved comprehensive coverage. Leave the warmed oil in your hair as long as possible. Wrap your head in a towel turban to improve absorption, using an oil towel as the oil will stain.

If you can, wash your hair with Aloe Vera Gel by dampening your hair with warm water then placing enough Aloe Vera Gel in your hair to reach every strand of hair. Massage thoroughly for a couple of minutes before rinsing in warm water. If you want to improve the thickness and health of your hair add Organic Lavender Essential Oil and Organic Ylang Ylang Essential Oil to your Aloe Vera.

This process is great for taming dry, frizzy and damaged hair.

1 review for Buriti Oil [Organic]

  1. Kimberly

I was looking for a natural sunscreen made with oils for my upcoming vacation and decided to give this a try. I was so impressed with how well it actually worked! I mixed mine with mostly Raspberry seed oil, but added a little Pomegrenate, Tamanu, and Buriti oils. Next time I will probably eliminate the Tamanu oil as it was really greasy feeling, but seeing how I was using it at the beach, I didn’t mind so much. Looking forward to continuing to use this sun tanning blend! Thanks Rachel for all of your great information on this!
