Description
Blue Cypress Essential Oil
Blue Cypress Essential Oil is a rare Australian aromatherapy oil, with a number of different names:
- Cypress Pine Essential Oil
- Australian Cypress Pine Essential Oil
- Northern Cypress Pine Essential Oil
- Tropical Cypress Pine Essential Oil
Plant parts from the Australian Cypress Pine have traditionally been used by indigenous Australians, throughout the ages, for a wide variety of medicinal applications. Uses ranged from pain relief, including period pain, to the maintenance of healthy skin. It was also used as an insect repellent.
Blue Cypress Essential Oil is a very gentle oil with potent properties, suitable for facial and bodily skincare applications, when properly diluted in a suitable carrier oil. It is especially beneficial for inflammatory, problem skin conditions, and wound healing.
Blue Cypress Essential Oil also helps prevent premature ageing, and improves skin hydration.
It is also excellent for supporting emotional health, as its very grounding and stress reducing.
Profound impacts on the body include supporting detoxification pathways: it is antioxidant, and a venous and lymphatic decongestant. It is also sudorific, which means that it causes sweating.
As we eliminate 40% of our body waste through the skin, using a body oil containing Blue Cypress Essential Oil, or diffusing it during workouts, or whilst taking a sauna, is a great idea.
Blue Cypress Essential Oil Origins
The tree from which Blue Cypress Essential Oil is derived, is botanically known as Callitris intratropica
Callitris is the collective term, (genus), for Australian Cypress Pines, which are coniferous trees in the Cupressaceae plant family.
There are 16 recognised Callitris species, 13 of which are native to Australia. Most grow in the south, but three species, including Callitris intratropica, grow in the north, in New Caledonia
Callitris trees are often referred to as Australian Cypress Pines. The name Northern Cypress Pine refers to the northern territories of Australia, where Callitris intratropica is found.
Callitris intratropica, the tropical cypress pine, is a slender tree up to 8 m tall, occasionally found in small isolated stands in the eucalypt woodlands across the summer rainfall zone of northern Australia. In contrast C. glaucophylla, the white cypress pine, is widely dispersed across southern Australia with major occurrences in the southeast where forests lie on the western slopes of New South Wales.1
Blue Cypress Essential Oil is the only blue aromatherapy oil obtained from the non-flowering parts of a tree. Other blue essential oils are distilled from the flowers of small flowering plants. These include:

Blue Cypress Essential Oil Energetic Properties
Blue Cypress Essential Oil energetically influences on every level of our being… mind, body spirit.
It earths us in the ‘here and now’, enhancing our sense of connection to the material plane, allowing us to experience the potency of feeling fully embodied.
We live in a world that over-stimulates us visually and audibly. It is a world that connects with us intellectually, with a constant stream of information. With so much input, it is extremely easy to focus exclusively on where we re at mentally, leading to feelings of being disembodied, or disconnected to the rest of who we are.
In some, this sense of disconnection promotes insomnia, or stress and anxiety.
Thankfully, Blue Cypress Essential Oil provides us with an antidote. It cleanses our minds, grounds us in the moment, and reconnects us to our source of true inspiration.
With an increased sense of self, and a clearer focus of what really matters, we can face the world with greater confidence.
Blue Cypress Essential Oil is one of the best aromatherapy oils to facilitate a reunion with oneself, and the natural world.
