Description

Damiana Essential Oil

Wild As The Wind Damiana Essential Oil is sourced from Mexico.

It is an aromatically complex and unique aromatherapy oil which may be helpful for those of a sensitive disposition.

This is because it is thought to be supportive of those with emotional issues as well as those with a lot of nervous energy.

Damiana Essential Oil Tonic

Traditionally, Damiana was considered a tonic for overall health. It is, therefore, unsurprising it’s made its way into a number of popular drinks…

According to Mexican folklore, herbal infusions of Damiana were a key ingredient in the making of margaritas.

Whilst the recipe for Coca-Cola is considered to be one of the best ever kept secrets, it is rumoured that an extract of Damiana was included in the original Cola beverage recipe.

Damiana Essential Oil Health Benefits

Damiana Essential Oil health benefits are thought to include the following: Analgesic + anti-anxiety + anti-aromatase* + anti-asthmatic + antibacterial + anti-depressant + anti-inflammatory + antimicrobial + antinociceptive (pain relieving) + antioxidant + antispasmodic + digestive + diuretic + nervine + stimulant + tonic

Studies have demonstrated that essential oils from Turnera diffusa leaves and stem bark can have pain-relieving effects in animal models.

*Aromatase inhibitors (anti-aromatase agents), are essentially a form of hormone therapy. They are used to treat oestrogenic cancer, such as breast cancer, particularly in postmenopausal women. The way in which they work is by blocking the enzyme aromatase.

Aromatase converts androgens into oestrogen. By reducing oestrogen levels, anti-aromatase agents can help to slow or stop the growth of oestrogen-dependent breast cancer cells.

The extract of Turnera diffusa and two isolated compounds pinocembrin and acacetin could significantly suppress aromatase activity.1

Essential oils of damiana (T. diffusa) extracted by steam distillation from wild plants, plants micropropagated in solid medium and plants propagated in liquid medium are listed in Table 1, Table 2, Table 3. The main constituents of the essential oils in all samples are caryophyllene oxide, caryophyllene, δ-cadinene , β-elemene and 1,8-cineole. One report [9] indicates that δ-cadinene is a testosterone inducer and 1,8-cineole is testosterone hydroxylase inducer.2
