Using Organic Carrier Oils & Essential Oils For Haircare
It is helpful to combine organic carrier oils in hair oil preparations, depending on your own personal needs. Adding organic essential oils will improve outcomes, and will also make using a hair oil a more pleasant experience.
There is no correct combination of organic oils, as we all have individual needs. A process of experimentation will help you arrive at the best combination for you.
However, there are several rules of thumb that must be followed:
- Using your hair oil as a warm hair oil treatment will produce the best results
- The temperature of your hair oil prior to application should be tolerable to you
- The essential oil content of your hair oil should not exceed 2%
- Your hair oil should not be heated up in a microwave – use a bain-marie or Pyrex dish in a pan of hot water, which you gently heat up on your cooker.
The following hair oil recipe will act as a great guideline…
Organic Pumpkin Seed Oil Hair Oil Recipe & Usage Instructions
Place the following ingredients in your bain-marie or Pyrex dish:
- 78% Organic Pumpkin Seed Oil
- 20% Organic Jojoba Oil
- 2% Organic Essential Oils
Warm to the desired temperature, then apply to your scalp using your fingertips. Immediately wrap with a natural fibre towel, to retain the heat, and leave for a minimum of 20 minutes.
Shampoo and condition as normal.
*The longer you leave your hair oil on, the better. You can even leave it on overnight if desired. But, maintaining warmth is essential, so your hair should remain wrapped throughout. This may be too disruptive to sleep for some people, and certainly isn’t necessary.
You can use this hair oil treatment twice a week. But, please be aware, the more you wash your hair, the more you will weaken it and lose it. So, try and reduce the amount of times you wash your hair each week, and adjust your hair treatments accordingly.
