Premium Green Clay

Medicinal clays are created in nature, and are the result of the natural decomposition and crystallisation of volcanic rocks, found on the surface layer of the earth’s crust.

Clays are rich in essential minerals, varying in concentration from one source to another.

Clays have been used since ancient times for beautification, delivering trace minerals, to support health and for detoxification.

The silica content of clays constitute the main component of these mineral rich compounds.

Silica is needed to make collagen, the connective tissue which provides our skin, and other bodily tissues, with integrity and elasticity.

It contributes to:

  • Robust immune system
  • Healthy skin & teeth
  • Flexible & robust ligaments
  • Healthy & flexible blood vessels
  • Strong joints
  • Lustrous & strong hair
  • Strong nails
  • Healthy bones

Green clay comes in two main forms:

  • Iillite
  • Montmorillonnite

They are largely similar, with some key differences.

Montmorillonnite green clays are very pure, and contain high levels of magnesium and excellent levels of silica, usu. 50% to 60%.

It is antiseptic and antibacterial, with high absorption levels.

Premium green clay is the best known form of mineral clay, and remains the most broadly used of all clays, to this day.

Superfine Premium Green Clay

The mineral composition of green clay is very similar to that of red clay. It is similarly mineral-rich, but contains less iron oxide. It also has a slightly lower PH than red clay.

Green clay is formed from soft feldspathic sedimentary rock, and is a rich source of the following minerals:

  • Iron
  • Zinc
  • Phosphorus
  • Copper
  • Molybdenum
  • Magnesium
  • Manganese
  • Selenium
  • Potassium
  • Silica
  • Cobalt
  • Calcium
  • Alumina silicate
  • Sodium

Both the red and green clays, offered by Wild As The Wind, deliver many benefits, and can be used on both body and face.

Pure Green Clay

The use of green clay dates back to Roman and Egyptian times, and was most likely used by other great civilisations that preceded these times.

During these ancient civilisations, green clay was used by the elite classes to tone, cleanse, condition and enrich their skin and hair.

Montmorillonite green clay is soft to the touch, mineral rich, highly absorbent, deeply detoxifying and exfoliating. It delivers many discernable benefits to our skin and our overall health.

Owing to its many benefits, green clay is still used in all manner of personal care and cosmetic products, to this day.

Green clay spa treatments, often referencing Egyptian and Roman origins, are offered at some of the finest Health Spas in the UK.

Green Clay For Skincare

Montmorillonite green clay is suitable for normal and greasy skin.

Green clay can detoxify impurities and improve the appearance of the skin. It also helps to detoxify impurities from the subcutaneous tissue.

Being mineral rich, it can also revitalise and replenish the skin, both bodily and facially.

As it helps to promote cell regeneration, it is also recommended as an exfoliator for the body and face.

Green Clay Face Mask

Superfine Montmorillonite green clay can be used facially as well as for full body masks. It is superfine, and mixes easily into a smooth paste for easy application.

When used for face masks, Montmorillonite green clay helps to expand facial pores, facilitating improved elimination of impurities. It also draws on clogged debris within the skin and subcutaneous tissue, including environmental pollution, dead skin cells, trapped makeup and stored toxins, which have been deposited in subcutaneous fat.

Green clay exerts a soothing, balancing, toning influence on the skin, leaving it looking revived, brighter, plumper and more youthful.

Green Clay For Problem Skin

Because green clay is powerfully absorptive, it cleanses the skin very deeply, and helps to rectify the overproduction of oil. Green clay face masks are also an ideal treatment for those who are prone to breakouts, owing to its antibacterial action.

Green clay, like red clay, is a natural exfoliant and stimulant, that also works as a pore-tightening toner. When used regularly, it can rebalance, soften and brighten the skin, whilst also mattifying overly oily skin.

Due to the anti-inflammatory properties of green clay, it can help to calm irritation, reduce redness, and soothe inflammatory skin conditions, such as; acne, eczema, dermatitis and psoriasis.

Green clay is known to eliminate bacteria, and debris from the skin, leaving it toned and replenished. As an effective astringent, it reduces oiliness and improves skin tone.

Green Clay For Haircare

Once made into a smooth paste, Montmorillonite green clay, like Rhassoul clay, can be used instead of shampoo.

Many conventional shampoos contain toxic ingredients, and offer little in terms of nutrition.  Green clay, is purely natural, and contains no nasty ingredients. Instead, it delivers nutrients to the hair and scalp, improving the condition of both.

If you follow with a cider vinegar rinse, this will further enhance the condition of your hair, making it easier to comb, and improving texture and glossiness.

For full usage instructions, please read until the end.

In addition to effectively cleansing your hair, green clay will also:

  • Reduce oiliness, thereby reducing the frequency of hair washing
  • Reduce dryness
  • Eliminate impurities
  • Renourish the hair
  • Restore body & shine
  • Improve silkiness
  • Leave no residues, unlike many conventional shampoos
  • Help remove build-ups from conventional shampoos
  • Reduce frizz
  • Reduce dandruff

Green clay is an ideal hair product for all hair colours as it does not stain.

Montmorillonite Superfine Green Clay Quality

This is a non-ionized green clay, that is dried naturally, and contains no preservatives or colourings.

It is extracted from isolated quarries in wild, secluded environments in Sardinia.

Due to excellent purity levels, the clay mineral content tends to be a lot higher than in inferior clays.

The producer of this red clay adheres to the Ecocert / Cosmos standard for ecological and organic cosmetic raw materials.

Ingredient: 100% Green Montmorillonite

How to Use Green Clay

There are several ways of using Montmorillonite green clay. It is most commonly used as a rejuvenating, replenishing face mask, but full-body application is becoming more popular.

Whichever way you wish to use your clay, one important thing to remember always stays the same: Use a non-metallic implement to scoop your red clay, and for mixing.

Using a wooden spoon will preserve the electrical charge within the clay. This is very important for the efficacy of the clay.

Face Mask

To make your green clay paste, for application as a face mask, simply place the desired amount of clay in a bowl and add water until it forms a silky paste.

Remember to use a wooden spoon to scoop your green clay, and for mixing, to preserve the all-important electrical charge of the clay.

Once your paste is creamy and smooth, this can be applied to your clean, makeup-free face, with a brush or the tips of your fingers.

Avoid application to the following areas of the face:

  • Eye sockets
  • Mouth

Allow the clay to dry for 10 to 15 minutes, or so, and then rinse off with warm water.

Do not use your muslin cloth for rinsing. Simply splash your face with warm water until all the clay is removed.

You can use Hydrosol Toners for mixing your green clay paste, for even better results, as well as a more indulgent experience.

When starting to implement face masks into your beauty regime, you can do so in a flurry! You may wish to do a face mask a day in the first week to rectify imperfections and reduce breakouts, discolouration and rashes.

However, once skin balance has been improved, reduce your face masks to once, or twice a week.

Everyone is different, so pay attention to your skin, and allow it to tell you the frequency needed for your green clay face masks.

Facial Exfoliation

Green clay can be combined with other ingredients to perform exfoliation. A good option for this uses the following ratios of ingredients:

1 x tbsp green clay + 1 x tbsp finely ground oatmeal + sufficient cider vinegar to form a paste.

This natural homemade green clay exfoliating paste can be used once weekly.

Simply apply the paste to your face, as you would the green clay face mask, and massage gently for up to two minutes.

Then leave the paste for another 5 minutes before rinsing it off with warm water.

Remember to use a wooden spoon to scoop your green clay, and for mixing, to preserve the all-important electrical charge of the clay.

Hair Mask

To make a green clay hair mask, simply add more water than you would for a face mask. Your green clay hair mask needs to be a lot more runny, almost like the ‘slip’ used by ceramicists. The ratios are as follows:

1 x tbsp green clay to 1/4 cup of water.

Again, as with the face mask option, you can use Hydrosol Toners for mixing your green clay paste, or you can add a drop of your favourite essential oil blend to your ‘slip’.

The best essential oils for hair and scalp care are:

These essential oils are also available as organic aromatherapy oils. Please use the search box at the top of the page to locate them.

Also, please remember to use a wooden spoon to scoop your red clay, and for mixing, to preserve the all-important electrical charge of the clay.

Application is simple. Using your fingertips, massage the ‘slip’ into your scalp.

Leave for up to ten minutes for a deep cleanse. But, if you are short on time, two minutes will be sufficient for most people.

Do not let the clay dry in your hair, as this can contribute to hair damage. The clay shrinks when it dries, and so may cause hair breakage.

Whole Body Mask

The consistency of the paste you make for a whole body mask will be slightly more runny than the green clay paste used for facial application.

Again, please remember to use a wooden spoon to scoop your red clay, and for mixing, to preserve the all-important electrical charge of the clay.

Apply your green clay body mask before bathing, leaving it to dry whilst you attend to other personal care means.

Do not run a bath whilst waiting for the clay to dry. The steam from a drawn bath will keep the clay moist. The detoxification of the skin occurs close to the end of the clay drying phase, so letting it dry is an important step.

Simply rinse off in the shower after use. Then moisturise afterwards with a good bath & body oil.
