Linden Blossom Essential Oil
Linden Blossom Essential Oil is also known as Lime Blossom Oil, or Lime Blossom Essential Oil.
Linden Blossom Essential Oil is delightfully delicate in its subtlety, but nonetheless, remains a potently fragrant aromatherapy oil. It is predominantly floral, gently suffused by rich honey tones.
It delivers a good number of health benefits, (see below), but owing to its sophisticated and profoundly alluring aroma, it also maintains a prestigious place in high-end perfumery.
Linden Blossom Essential Oil is both alluring and intoxicating. Its floral, honeyed sweetness is underpinned by subtle citrus and peachy tones. This lends it a complex bouquet, ensuring that Linden Blossom Essential Oil avoids being overly sweet. There are also hints of green and white tea.
It’s no wonder that Linden Blossom Essential Oil is highly coveted by the perfume industry!
Linden Blossom Essential Oil Origins
There are three native types of Linden tree in the UK:
- The small-leaf lime: Tilia cordata
- The large-leaf lime: Tilia platyphyllos
- The common lime: Tilia x europaea, which is a hybrid of small and broad leaved lime trees.
Wild As The Wind Linden Blossom Essential Oil is extracted from the yellowy green flowers of the Tilia x europaea tree, native to Europe, but found in the UK and western Asia.
It is confined climatically to the southern parts of the UK, but reaches up as far as the midlands in some places.
Linden Blossom Tree History
Tilia cordata and platyphyllos trees are very large, attractive trees, with a broad, oval crown.
Due to their prominent stature, and pleasing structure, Linden trees were widely planted in avenues and landscapes in the 17th and 18th centuries, a decision that has gifted us many magnificent Tilia cordata and platyphyllos specimens to the present day.
Whilst they have been popularised in more recent times, Tilia cordata and platyphyllos trees are very ancient trees. The Linden tree has, in fact, been with us for at least 50 million years. Fossilized remains have been found throughout Northern Europe, that have been carbon dated to these prehistoric times.
Perhaps owing to the naturally intoxicating aroma of its flowers, the Tilia tree possesses a rich history, and has been considered a sacred tree by many, as revealed by the folkloric traditions of many peoples. This is especially true of Ancient Greece and Egypt.
Masks made of linden wood have been found in the sarcophagi of the Fayum.
In ancient times, the Linden tree was dedicated to Venus, the Roman goddess of love, beauty and fertility.
Depicted as a feminine tree, as well as a tree of goddesses, it also represents maternal love in the temporal realm.
