Description
Elemi Essential Oil
Elemi Essential Oil is also known as Elemi Balsam Essential Oil, and shares many beneficial similarities with other balsamic aromatherapy oils like Iary Essential Oil, Gurjun Essential Oil, Copaiba Balsam Essential Oil and Cananga Essential Oil.
However, these oils, along with the potent Gurjun Balsam Essential Oil, and equally impressive Canada Balsam Essential Oil are not true balsamic aromatherapy oils.

Elemi Essential Oil Energetic Qualities
Energetically, Elemi Essential Oil is all about unity. It resonates with balancing vibrations to bring greater integrity and expansiveness. It also encourages compassion, acceptance & tolerance.
Traditional uses and understandings of this energetically vibrant aromatherapy oil reflect the energetic importance of Elemi Essential Oil .
Elemi is the Arabic word meaning “As above, so below”. This is because, in ancient times, Elemi was considered a sacred oil, which created a greater alliance between the higher and lower realms.
It was thought the use of Elemi Essential Oil permitted improved access to spiritual insight, facilitating the emergence of higher ideals, and more heavenly motivations here on earth.
The ancient Egyptians used it for embalming to assist the souls of the deceased to transcend to a higher realm.
Elemi Essential Oil Spiritual Uses

It also improves our access to our intuition and Higher Self when used for meditative purposes.
Within each individual, it is thought that Elemi Essential Oil brings the crown and root chakras into balance. For this reason it helps us to reveal how to balance our spiritual lives with our worldy existence.

Cautions & Contraindications
It can be seen elsewhere on the internet that Tisserand & Young recommend a dermal maximum of 0.3% for Elemi Essential Oil as it may contain methyl eugenol. However, in the latest edition of the Essential Oil Safety Manual they state “No Limit”.
Whilst Tisserand & Young don’t recommend any dermal limits for Elemi Essential Oil, IFRA and the EU recommend even lower amounts than 0.3%… more than halving this amount, in fact.
The methyl eugenol content will vary from one batch of Elemi Essential Oil to another. So, this advice for such low dilutions of Elemi Essential Oil is effectively to restrict the dermal dilution to contend with the highest levels of methyl eugenol for this aromatherapy oil.
However, the reasoning of Tisserand & Young is that the constituents needed to counter any ill-effects from the methyl eugenol are more than adequately present in this very beneficial oil.
Elemi Essential Oil should not be used if it is oxidised, (exposed to excessive sunlight and air).
